I joined the practice in 1994 when it was located in Catchfrench Manor whence the practice name came. I moved down to Cornwall from Bristol in 1992 having previously married a Cornish Maid from these parts. I studied architecture at the University of Bristol staying on to run a small design and build operation with a couple of like minded friends. Times were hard but creative and many practical skills were learned. My Professional Practice qualification was gained while working on Broad Quay House (majoring on bricks and solid geometry without the benefit of a computer) http://broadquayhouse.co.uk/gallery/index.htm and the Taunton Shopping Centre for the Alec French Partnership, a large practice based in Bristol. I became the principal of Catchfrench Design in 2007 when John Wilks retired. A great responsibility entered rather blindly at first. Running a small practice has been a steep learning curve and we have managed to ride the recession unlike many a less fortunate practice. |

I joined the practice in 2007 during my summer holiday from university and returned after completing my postgraduate studies the following year. Since then I have continued to study whilst working at Catchfrench Design and pursued my interest in Architectural Conservation by gaining a Masters in the subject, writing about Victorian walled kitchen gardens. I passed my Certificate of Professional Practice in 2010 to become a fully qualified architect. I am originally from Wiltshire although have been living in Plymouth since starting my university studies. |
