Houses at Frogpool
The site is just under 1000m² and the proposal was for two detached dwellings to fill in the urban pattern of the village. Each house has over 350m² of private outdoor space.
The houses have been orientated to prevent overlooking of any private spaces. Family rooms are placed to link directly with the rear private amenity space whilst utility rooms provide an alternative route to the bin area and rear garden during 'dirty' activities.
Upstairs, north facing rooms and the stairwell are given additional daylight from roof lights to reduce the need for artificial lighting.
Traditional local materials have been chosen to enable the houses to fit in their surroundings, and the careful placement and design gives each elevation some variety. The elevations comprise materials local to the area with stone and hanging slate used to reduce the massing. Traditional visual cues have been incorporated in a contemporary fashion to combine the Cornish Vernacular with modern day requirements of construction and use.
The Cornish hedges will be augmented with native species trees to maintain privacy and give continuity along the lane.
