Meadowside, Trewint near Altarnun
The existing cottage at Meadowside had been Grade 2 listed
in 1988, yet needed much attention to preserve the historic nature of it. The proposal was to bring it
back into use with a respectful restoration, complimented by two similar thatched cottages.
Lisiting details:
House: Probably early C17. Stone rubble. Corrugated asbestos roof with gable ends,
probably originally replacing thatch, the top of the left hand gable end wall capped with rag slates. Stone rubble
end stack with slate strings.
Plan: Two room plan with entrance to right of centre, leading directly into larger
left hand room which is heated by an end stack. Smaller unheated room on right. Circa C19 service wing on
left hand end extending to rear, heated by stone rubble end stack.
Exterior: Two storeys. Almost symmetrical 2-window front. Entrance slightly to right
of centre with square headed chamfered and stopped granite door frame. Large circa C19 stone rubble porch in front
with corrugated asbestos roof. C20 2-light casement to left and 1 light window to right. Two 2-light casements with
glazing bars removed on first floor, the left hand window a half dormer with raked slate roof. End wall of service
wing on left hand side.
Interior: Wany chamfered floor-joists. C20 grate to fireplace. First floor not
inspected.
